PROPERTY DESCRIPTION & HISTORY
A classic Georgian Country house, Glebe House is situated in an area known as Landsend, for its prominent positioning at the sheltered curve of the bay where the land meets the sea. The name Glebe House itself comes from the tradition of building significant houses as accommodation for church dignitaries. The evidence of this is seen throughout in the graceful proportions of the formal rooms, and in the generous accommodation, which has been well maintained and upgraded over time.

Since the early 1800s, Glebe House was home to the Church of Ireland Vicars of Saint Mary’s Church, Dungarvan, who lived under the patronage of the Dukes of Devonshire from their Irish seat in nearby Lismore. Early photographs of The Glebe are held in the collection of the Waterford County Museum.

While the Duke of Devonshire still has a home at Lismore Castle, and is a regular visitor to the area with his family, Glebe House has since had a series of its own illustrious owners. In 1945, it was acquired by Paul I. Power of the prominent Co Waterford drinks and bottling industry dynasty. Power, whose father was founder of the St Brigid’s Well Brewery, undertook key restoration works to the house, with care and sensitivity.

In 2001, the house was purchased by the present owners, whose joinery business has meant there is now extensive high quality timber work throughout The Glebe, as they likewise undertook the continuing care, restoration and upkeep of this significant part of Co Waterford’s legacy.

GLEBE HOUSE
A sunny and generous vestibule with bathroom off it, leads to the inner hallway from which the main pair of formal rooms are both large dual aspect spaces. The living room has a fireplace, and the dining room a stove. Each has wide floor-to-ceiling inset sash windows with shutters, and sea and garden views. Dungarvan (Irish: Dún Garbhán) is a seaside resort town and harbour, situated on the N25 national primary road and the R672 and R675 regional roads. The nearest airports are Waterford Airport, which is 50km away and the larger Cork Airport, which is 80km away. Dungarvan is at the mouth of the Colligan River, which divides the town into two parts. Dungarvan Harbour as such is formed by The Quay (on the town side) and The Causeway. Outside the harbour, a 3 km sandbar, "The Cunnigar" defines the western limit of the 4 km-wide Dungarvan Bay. There is a well-maintained concrete slipway in Dungarvan town, suitable for launching vessels up to eight metres in length. Moorings are usually made available to visiting yachts by Dungarvan Harbour Sailing Club, often free of charge.
