We are pleased to welcome to the market this famous building in the heart of the busy town of Dungloe.
Located in a very strategic location in the middle of the town, the building is a three storey property with so many options available to the prospective buyer. There is substantial grounds at the rear of the building to allow for potential developments.
This lovely building of early twentieth century appearance, retain much of its early form and character and is certainly one of the most appealing buildings in town.
The front elevation entails the extensive render detail particularly the detail of the half dormer openings, the central bays and the hood mouldings over many of the openings. Its tall facade and detached form gives this building the strong presence in the streetscape of the town. The form of this building suggests it dates to the first decades of the twentieth century. The central bay windows are a feature of many contemporary houses and buildings. It has a community presence in the streetscape and was designed to express the solidity and wealth of the institution through its architecture. This building is one of the better structures in the area and is an element of the built heritage of Dungloe.
The two iconic buildings which greet you as you drive into Dungloe from the Carnmore Road (Former Bank Buildings) at Main Street, Dungloe were constructed between 1904 and 1906 originally for Mrs Margaret Sweeney of Sweeney’s Hotel, Dungloe. They were identified as two semi detached villas which were later opened up and used as one by the National Bank and many years later by the Bank of Ireland.
They lend themselves to a possible B&B or hotel or private residence. The views at the rear face onto the Atlantic with wonderful views of Arranmore and the islands off Burtonport and Maghery.
The building comprises essentially of 10 rooms, a Kitchen, and open Lobby/Retail area and five recently installed Shower Rooms and a number of WC.
A newly installed gas boiler serviced by a gas tank. Electric radiators were installed in 2022 as well as a fire alarm and double glazing.
A right of way established at the rear for parking.

Building Energy Rating (BERs)
Building Energy Rating (BERs) give information on how to make your home more energy efficient and reduce your energy costs. All properties bought, sold or rented require a BER. BERs carry ratings that compare the current energy efficiency and estimated costs of energy use with potential figures that a property could achieve. Potential figures are calculated by estimating what the energy efficiency and energy costs could be if energy saving measures were put in place. The rating measures the energy efficiency of your home using a grade from ‘A’ to ‘G’. An ‘A’ rating is the most efficient, while ‘G’ is the least efficient. The average efficiency grade to date is ‘D’. All properties are measured using the same calculations, so you can compare the energy efficiency of different properties.
