Brief History of the property:
This house belongs to a group of buildings used as local schools in the 19 th century. The school began in April 1840, known then as a hedge school. It later became a National School.
The 1841 census reported 100 people living in 16 houses in the school’s townland. By 1851,at the end of the great famine the population had fallen to 68 people living in 11 houses.
The attendance at the school fell from 59 on 31 st March 1846 to 32 a year later. 1847 is widely regarded as the worst year of the famine. By March 1848, the attendance numbers had recovered to 72.
History tells that it had a thatched roof in the 1800’s.
